Trip to Lake Chiemsee...

After a couple of days at school and sightseeing in the surrounding cities, our group met this morning to head off to see Lake Chiemsee.  On an island in the lake is a palace built by Leopold II of Bavaria.  The history is quite interesting, at least I think so...but I like that sort of thing.  Instead of boring you with that, I gave you a link to follow..click on the lake!  We took a ferry out to the island and then after a short walk through the woods, we got to the palace.  We spent some time around the fountains, at one point Mr. Van Dyke and I saw a small deer running through a clearing...pretty cool.  We then took a guided tour of the interior of the palace...we were not able to photograph the inside, I found a couple of pictures from the inside on the internet that I will share.  After that, we returned (by boat) and then back to Gars (by bus).  Today was also graduation day at Gars, so instead of the host families accompanying us, students from the group that will be coming to Olney in the spring joined us. The weather was much better than anticipated, the forecast was for raining and low 50s.  It only rained for a short time when we were at the palace.  And the sun actually came out once we were on the island, first time in a couple of days.  All in all it was a pretty good day.  Saturday and Sunday the kids will spend with their hosts and we will get together on Monday for a day trip to visit Nuremberg.
