An Appeal to Heaven...

Why does this American Revolution flag use this slogan?  Where did the slogan come from?  I am still waiting for an answer...how about five bonus points to the first three students from each class to print this off, correctly answer the question, and turn it into me.  Deadline is the end of school on Friday, 31 August 2012.
