SCHOOL DANCE
GUIDELINES
Dances at East Richland High
School are designed to provide a positive social setting for students, and to
provide a safe place for students to gather for fun and entertainment. Since the dances are a function of the
school, it is necessary for the school to establish guidelines that are
designed to promote an environment in which all students and adults feel safe
and comfortable. The East Richland High School administration and
dance supervision staff are responsible for making discretionary judgments
about the adherence of these guidelines.
STUDENT
APPEARNACE
While at ERHS events and activities, students and their
guests are responsible to adhere to specific guidelines in student dress and
appearance. As stated in the ERHS
Student Handbook on pg. 16, “Clothing or
other wearing apparel which is sexually explicit , including but not limited
to: tube tops, halter tops, clothing that shows the bare back and/or midriff,
low cut shirts or shorts and/or skirts that are revealing, or transparent/mesh
clothing without adequate undergarments.
Individuals attending school dances
should plan to meet these guidelines for student dress and appearance.
STUDENT
CONDUCT
Students and their guests should expect to be held to a high
standard of conduct when under ERHS jurisdiction and supervision. Student conduct at school dances falls into
four main areas.
1.
Dancing – Inappropriate
dancing, which includes but is not limited to, “moshing,” “body-surfing,” “slam-dancing,”
“grinding,” or any style of dancing deemed inappropriate by the dance supervisors.
2.
Leaving the Dance – Students
may not leave the dance once they have entered.
Any student
that leaves the dance early will not be allowed to re-enter.
3.
Guests – ERHS students bringing non-ERHS students to a dance
must sign that guest up in the high school office at least one week prior to
the dance. Middle school students,
individuals over the age of 21, or high school drop-outs are not allowed to
attend ERHS dances.
4.
Use of Alcohol,
Tobacco, or Drugs – Alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs are prohibited on the
ERHS campus, or at school-sponsored events and activities. The school administration reserves the right
to randomly sample students for alcohol use by using a portable alcohol sensing
device. Students found in violation of
this policy will face consequences as prescribed in the ERHS Student Handbook
(Section 28 & 29).
Cooperation in each of these areas is expected so as to
provide a positive and fun experience for all people involved. Failure to adhere to these guidelines can
result in removal from the dance, police and/or parent notification, and
disciplinary consequences as outlined in the ERHS Student Handbook.
