1. Chicago...City of the Century. You will watch parts of episode two of the series on the growth of the city of Chicago "from mud hole to metropolis". This episode deals with the rebirth after the Great Fire through the growth of the meat packing industries (pay particular attention to Gustavus Swift and his use of vertical and horizontal integration) and the rise of Marshall Fields (tis the season for shopping).
2. You should have several papers for us to look at from the last week I was here. After the video, we will look at Problems of the City, and the packet from "Deer/Blood Drive Day".
3. Time permitting...we will look at working conditions and the rise of labor unions.
4. Map quiz on Friday...25 states and 25 capitals!
